FOLLOWING a surreal sunrise over Point Arkwright on another cold morning, I began the third day of my expedition along the South East Queensland Coast heading towards Maroochydore.
The tide was high in the middle of the morning making for tough hiking conditions along the beach. I therefore headed inland to climb Mount Coolum, a huge volcanic outcrop that has dominated the Sunshine Coast since Noosa Heads.
Being a perfectly clear morning, there were a lot of people on the steep cobblestone stepped trail heading up the hill. After a steady climb, I reached the summit from where I had spectacular views from the mountainous sandhills of the Great Sandy National Park all the way down to Caloundra.
