HAVING stayed the night in the Koryo Hotel in the middle of the city, we started the day by visiting the Kim Il Sun Square and heading up the hill to the Grand People's Study House. From there we headed to the War Museum where the displays were of a standard higher than I've ever seen in any museum anywhere in the world to date.

From there we headed about 110 metres under the city by a rather fast escalator into the very elegant Pyongyang Metro, where we spent a couple of hours riding the local trains and getting off at almost every station, most of which were very rarely visited by foreigners. Apparently our group had special government clearance to do this.

After exploring the metro, we headed to the communist monument before heading into an art gallery to view some spectacular landscape paintings. We then headed to a local movie theatre and joined a couple of other tour groups to watch an old local movie with its producer.
