ABOUT ten years ago I travelled across the lake on the Earnslaw, a steamship built in 1912 to service the remote farming and gold mining communities on the lake.
Today I travelled on a fast catamaran through a different company to further explore the lake, heading a lot further up towards the remote Mount Nicholas farm that has now opened to tourism.
Heading into the northern end of the lake under a cold southerly, the spectacular 2800 metre high Mount Earnslaw towered in the background above the Dart Valley where various scenes from Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit were filmed.
