I STARTED at the Beachmere Boat Ramp at the northern bank of the mouth of the Caboolture River watching the full moon setting over the still water before the sun rose. I explored the tall mangroves nearby before returning to the river to photograph the early morning sun shining brightly on the boats silently anchored.

There was no bridge crossing the river along its lower reaches so from here I drove all the way upstream to Caboolture and down the other side to the Uhlmann Road Boat Ramp almost directly opposite to where I had watched the sunrise. Here I looked back across the river with the intense sun reflecting off it before exploring the hardened mudflat between the river and nearby Burpengary Creek which didn't quite flow into the Caboolture River, but had its mouth just a couple of hundred metres from the Caboolture's mouth. It did not take long to reach the creek, where the water was flowing swiftly upstream with the incoming tide.

From there I returned to the boat ramp and headed over to the over side of the Deception Bay Conservation Park to cross the large and dry mud flat for about a kilometre to reach near the mouth of Burpengary Creek, now full with the incoming tide. I headed back before the mud flats began flooding with today's big tide. At the start of this hike, I spotted a tiger snake hiding in the grass so gave it a wide berth. This was the first snake I've seen in a long time.
