Well hello friends. Today I'm down the Gold Coast exploring the canals just behind Surfer's Paradise.

You can see the city centre just behind me there just a couple of hundred metres across the the canal, and then just on the other side of those buildings is the open sea. This is near the mouth of the Nerang River which has been turned into a huge canal estate. It is the world's largest canal estate area, much bigger than Venice and even bigger that St Petersburg. I've never explored out here before. I have explored the city quite a few times and along the coast but never through here along the canals so I'm doing that today. Over there you can see part of the Tweed Volcano in the Springbrook National Park area.

Here I'm in a nice little park in between the rows of houses. It is a beautifully fine day today and I'm just exploring this area in some of these estates. There are quite a few walkways here so I'm joining them all up but the canals do go along a huge distance and there's mostly houses in front of them so I'll just stick to the walkways. At the end of today I will head up the turquoise blue building over there. That's the Q1 tower where I'll be heading up to the observation deck to watch the sunset in a few hours. The Q1 when it was built in 2005 was the world's tallest residential building but not anymore. I'm heading up it this evening.

OK friends I'm now up on the Q1 building 230 metres above the street. Looking over there you can see the beautiful canals I've been exploring today and a bit further around to the Gold Coast beaches. It's really interesting having spent two or three hours exploring the canals and now I'm up here looking down on them and tracing the route I took around the different parts. The canals go way up to almost the hills so I only explored a very small section of it.

The hills you see are the remains of the Tweed Volcano and I have a whole section about that in the travels section of the website. I haven't been there for a long time but I'm looking at doing some more exploring up there sometime next year to have a good look. From here there will be about another hour before the sun sets and I will stay here for longer while the sky gets dark and the city lights come on.

With that, thanks friends for joining me again and I shall catch you again next time. Ciao for now.
