Today's Journey
Starting from Spit Bridge, I follow the track above the calm waters down the southern side of Middle Harbour. |
The track climbs along the side of the steep hill. In amongst the houses hidden in the trees is the Parriwi Lighthouse standing hardly above the thick vegetation to nagivate the boats up Middle Harbour. |
The path descends to Chinamans Beach along where I have the final glimpses of the opening of the entrance to the harbour. |
After another headland crossing, I reach the popular Balmoral Beach where I follow the path above the sand to its far end before climbing a long series of stairs and descending to another military base at Middle Head. |
After leaving Middle Head, I follow the trail through dense bush above the beautiful waters of the main harbour. Small boats sit anchored in the pristine water. |
After rounding several headlands and bays, I reach the Bradley's Head lighthouse, another old military base defending the harbour. The city centre is getting closer. |
The trail passes through the bush under Taronga Zoo and passes more pristine bays as I gradually approach the city centre. |
The tide is out as I pass around the back of Sirius Beach and continue around more headlands now covered in houses and apartment blocks, and going around more small beaches. |
My final resting spot is Milson Park at the back of Neutral Bay. High rise apartments surround the peaceful park. |
From the park I head over one more hill into Kirribilli where I head down to the harbour at Broughton Street Lookout next to the Sydney Harbour Bridge to finish today's hiking. |
