Introduction to today's journey
Today's journey starts at O'Reillys as a large flock of king parrots gather for a morning feed. I explore the rainforest canopy walk before heading back down the mountain through Canungra before heading back up it again to Binna Burra where I hike the Canungra Falls Circuit and Tullawallal hill before settling for two nights.
Today's Journey
After the very long walk yesterday, I spend the morning relaxing at O'Reillys, discovering these statues of some aviators who crashed on a very remote part of the range. |
Nearby is a replica of the Stinson, the plane which crashed in the jungle whilst flying from Brisbane to Sydney in 1937. |
There are a lot of interesting birds in O'Reillys, including a lot of king parrots which come every morning for the feeding. |
A curious bowerbird comes to the picnic table looking for anything blue to decorate its nest with. |
I do a short walk through one of the rainforest trails and explore the canopy walk. |
From O'Reillys I head down the mountain along the long winding road. |
A kangaroo hops through the long grass as I approach the bottom of the mountain. |
At the bottom of the mountain is the small town of Canungra, which I pass through before heading back up the mountain along another road to Binna Burra. |
Upon reaching the end of the road at Binna Burra, I follow the Coomera Circuit to a viewpoint above Coomera Falls. |
Completing the circuit along the Border Track, I turn off to Tullawallal, a clump of Antarctic beech trees at the summit of one of the hills along the top of the ridge. |
