Introduction to today's journey

Today's journey takes me around the spectacular forest and gardens of Poring Hot Springs. We take a hike into the forest to a beautiful waterfall before returning to the gardens and taking a trip to nearby Ranau.

Today's Journey

View up the mountain in the early morning. The summits of Mount Kinabalu are hidden in the clouds as they usually do in this tropical rain zone.

We head down the valley to a farm where we discover a very rare rafflesia in flower. These are the world's largest flowers, and only bloom for about a week once every ten years.

Exploring more of the farm as we head back towards our base at Poring.

Later in the day we hike from the gardens along a trail through the very dense forest.

Returning to the gardens, we meet Jackie the orangutan who is a bit slow being brain damaged from falling out of a tree some years ago. She is well looked after though by the garden staff.
