Introduction to today's journey
Today's journey takes me up the mountains into the Congo jungle where we track a family of gorillas and spend about an hour with them before heading back down the mountain to our eco lodge.
Today's Journey
We leave the eco camp at first light climbing into the rain soaked Bwindi Mountains draped in misty cloud. |
Our group assembles at the end of the track ready to find some gorillas. Two trekkers have already gone into the bush ahead of us to find the gorillas. |
Trekking through a clearing in the forest deep in the cloud heading further up the mountain. Our trackers have found the gorillas and is directing our guides where to go to catch up with them. |
The terrain is rough as we come and go from the forest continuing to head up the mountain, following our moving targets. |
An enormous silverback gorilla named Mishaya crawls through the dense undergrowth. |
A female gorilla up one of the trees eating the foliage. |
Michaya finds a spot and eats lots of leaves, giving the occasional curious glance. |
A baby gorilla comes out of the foliage checking us out and finding more food. |
After an hour with the gorillas we head back down the mountain, resting at a small clearing. These are our guides and trekkers in camouflage gear. The guy in the middle is an armed guard with an AK-47 to protect us from invaders from the Congo. |

Getting a certificate before heading back to the ecolodge to rest for the remainder of the day. |
