Introduction to today's journey
Today's journey continues by plane firstly checking back into the expanding Santiago Airport. A flight across the continent over the Andes takes me to Buenos Aires, South America's largest city. There I quickly transit catching my final flight down the length of Patagonia to Ushuaia, the world's southernmost and remotest city.
Today's Journey
Santiago Airport after I've checked in and gone through immigration again, about to head across the continent to Argentina. |
Flying eastward out of the haze of Santiago approaching the Andes. The triangular peak in the distance to the left is Mount Aconcagua, the highest mountain outside the Himalayas. |
Flying over the snow-capped mountains of the Andes, the almost impenetrable barrier between Chile and Argentina. |
Landing in Buenos Aires to transit for a couple of hours. This is South America's largest and most populous city. |
Having gone through immigration and entered Argentina, I catch my next plane. |
Flying out of Buenos Aires over the estuary of Rio de la Plata separating Argentina from Uruguay. From here we head south. |
Flying over southern Argentina heading towards the bottom of the continent. |
Landing in Ushuaia, the world's southernmost and remote city sheltered under the rugged snow-capped mountains of Tierra del Fuego. |
I have arrived in Ushuaia in the early evening. |
The Martial Range towers above the small city, very cold at 54 degrees latitude. After two days of flying, I head off for an early night. |
