Introduction to today's journey
Today's journey takes me from Washington D.C. to the border between the north and the south and crossing over to the small town of Gettysburg where the greatest battle of the United States civil war was fought.
Today's Journey
Departing Washington D.C. in the morning in a bus with advertising on its windows badly obscurring the view. |
Reaching the historic town of Gettysburg after travelling through thick fog across the edge of Maryland and crossing over to Pennsylvania, the state boundaries marking the division between the northern and southern armies in the civil war. |
Exploring one of the houses in the middle of Gettysburg left as is after the civil war, including gun stations in the attic and bullet holes in the outer wall. |
One of the houses which survived the civil war. |
A large panorama of the battles at the Gettysburg museum. |
One of many hundreds of memorials scattered through the fields around Gettysburg marking the spots where soldiers were killed. |
Another large memorial with the town of Gettysburg on the next low ridge. |
View from the summit of Round Top, the highest point of the battlegrounds. |
Battlements still in place on the farmland near Gettysburg. |
Continuing northward in the late afternoon towards Lancaster, the capital city of the state of Pennsylvania. |
