Introduction to today's journey
Today's journey takes me around the waterfront at Battery Park before heading to the World Trade Center memorial. From there I head up the new World Trade Center building before taking a cruise out along the Hudson River to the Statue of Liberty.
Today's Journey
My first stop is the entrance to the Men In Black Headquarters at Battery Park. Ironically there is a film crew here setting up some shots for the fourth MIB film today. |
I head a couple of blocks to the World Trade Center, with the new building towering spectacularly towering 546 metres high - the same height as the original towers which fell in 2001. |
At the 911 memorial pools, where the footprints of the two towers have been converted into water fountains. |
I head inside the 911 Memorial and Museum, heading underground beside the foundations of the original towers. There are a lot of artefacts from the fallen towers here, including the remains of this section of the main aerial rising above the north tower. |
I head up to the main observation deck of 1 World Trade Center 386.5 metres above the park and look out across the Hudson River to Jersey City. |
Looking the other way along Manhattan Island where the Empire State Building is clearly visible in the middle of the shot. |
After heading back down to street level, I catch a boat out onto the Hudson River, now looking back at Lower Manhattan's financial district. |
We head close to the Statue of Liberty, gifted to the United States by France in 1886 when is became independent of the United Kingdom. It is made of copper, and would have been a copper gold colour when donated, but has since oxidised into the distinctive copper oxide green colour. |
After heading a bit further out into the harbour, we swing around and cruise into East River, passing more of the Financial District with Wall Street in the middle of the shot. |
Returning to the port beside Battery Park under the spectacular glass towers of Lower Manhattan. |
