Introduction to today's journey
REPUTED to be the world's slowest river, the Florida Everglade is a huge swampland just above sea level flowing at about a mile a day from Orlando down the length of southern Florida to exit around the Florida Keys. Much of inland Florida is uninhabitable swampland full of reeds and hosts of dangerous wildlife, including alligators and snakes. Overhead are many birds feeding on the swarms of insects and small fish living here.
Today's journey takes me from the centre of Florida heading westward towards the middle of the panhandle. A road crosses above the everglade but we stop in the middle to board a large swamp buggy. We follow a channel out into the vast expanse of reeds exploring the area and looking for wildlife. Returning to the centre, we get close to some of the alligators and explore a boardwalk. From there I return to Miami and explore the city over the afternoon.
