A TOUGH morning trek led to the top of Dead Woman Pass at 4215 metres above sea level.
This was the highest of the three passes of the Inca trail, close to the half way point. It will be another two mornings before I will reach the sacred ruins of Machu Picchu, but reaching the top of the pass was my first major achievement in this rugged terrain deep in the Peruvian Andes.
